Columbus, Ohio resident, pianist and acclaimed composer Craig Courtney will conduct the Capital University Chordsmen at the First Presbyterian Church of Logan on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013 for the 10:30 AM service.

After earning his Bachelors and a Masters in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Courtney spent nearly a decade performing, teaching and composing in Milan, Italy, and Salzburg, Austria.

In Austria he worked at the Mozarteum, where he served as piano teacher and accompanist for the woodwind and brass department. His main work was extensively as a vocal coach. In 1987 Mr. Courtney was appointed chief composer and music editor at Beckenhorst Press, Inc. He has been a frequent recipient of American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers achievement awards. His composition, Peace I Give to You, was awarded first place in the 2003 John Ness Beck Foundation competition. Craig Courtney has more than 300 published works. His Ukrainian Alleluia was performed on Capitol Hill for the 2012 National Day of Prayer Service, and he was the featured composer and conductor in Ukraine in November 2011.

Courtney remains in demand throughout the country as a choral clinician and featured composer. He is currently a faculty member at Capital University Conservatory of Music in Columbus, Ohio where he teaches Choral Arrangement and is conductor of the Chordsmen.

The Chordsmen ensemble is over 70 voices strong and regularly performs a variety of sacred and secular choral literature. They present their own concerts as well as joint concerts with other Conservatory ensembles and are described as singing with “raw power and a beautiful musical nuance.”

The chorus is now in their 8th year and performs under the direction of Mr. Craig Courtney.

Nationally recognized organist, Dr. Bradley H. Welch premieres at Christ Lutheran Church, Friday, December 14, 2012 at 7:30 PM. Dr. Welch has preformed frequently in Logan and other Ohio venues and will make his first appearance in Athens for this special event.

The concert will feature classic Advent organ literature with an Ecumenical Choir from several area churches, conducted by Dr. Peter Jarjisian. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. This event is co-sponsored by the Southeast Ohio Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and Christ Lutheran Church. Christmas Concert 2012 will feature the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choirs of Logan and Nelsonville with appearances by the Hocking College Singers and students of Capital University, accompanied by pianist, Jeff Daubenmire. Internationally known concert organist, Adam J. Brakel premieres in Logan for two consecutive performances in November, 2012. This distinguished musician and Masters Graduate from the Peabody Conservatory of John Hopkins University has a glowing repertoire of virtuosic works highlighted by compositions from Bach, Buxtehude, Franck, Liszt, Mozart and Demessieux. Adam Brakel is one of today’s most exciting young performers whose energy and musical ability has delighted audiences throughout the United States and abroad. Beyond his demanding performance schedule, Mr. Brakel is currently the Director of Music at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Spring Hill, Florida.

The performances will be a unique experience each night and offer the audiences a diverse selection of master works. Join Adam for A Concert for Organ and Piano, sponsored by the Southeast Ohio Chapter of the American Guild of Organists where he will be joined by pianist, Jeff Daubenmire with a guest appearance by the Logan-Hocking Middle School Eighth Grade Choir and director Susan Kendig on Tuesday, November 13 at The First Presbyterian Church starting at 7:30 PM.

On the following evening, Wednesday, November 14, at 7:30 PM Adam can be seen for an Organ Recital at St. John Catholic Church located on 351 North Market Street, Logan, Ohio. We look forward to the enthusiasm and accomplished style Adam will bring to the stage. There will be a reception at both events, where Adam’s debut recording, Romantic and Virtuosic, will be available. Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.

We are pleased to announce a masterclass workshop and performance for our summer concert series that will feature vocalist Katie McGonalge. Ms. McGonagle will share the stage with students from her masterclass workshop who will present songs from the musical theater, opera and other popular selections. The performance will take place on Tuesday, July 17, 7:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Logan with a reception for meeting the singers to immediately follow in Westminster House.

Katie got her start at Ohio University studying with Dr. You-Seong Kim and took part in many performances including CCM Spoleto and Rising Star Opera Singers in Indiana. Through these and other programs She was ultimately granted opportunities to study with some of the country’s best coaches and singers including Sylvia McNair and David Weeks.

Ms. McGonagle also studied foreign languages and diction for singers, including Italian for a summer in Italy and received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Performance Honors Certificate from Ohio University. She is now under the instruction of Professor Barbara Paver at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she is working to achieve her masters degree in voice performance. Her passion for learning about the voice and it’s function have driven her to explore the world of singing and to pursue multiple music degrees.

Katie McGonagle has been a part of countless opera scenes ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan to Weber and performed in her first full-stage opera as a junior when she played Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Katie looks forward to sharing her experiences in voice and movement techniques and teaching others how to excel in musical performance.
